The High Level Bridge has U.S. premiere at the American Film Institute's AFI Fest 2010 presented by Audi

November 3, 2010

After a successful world premiere at the 2010 Toronto International Film Festival, The High Level Bridge, the latest short film by Trevor Anderson, will screen this week at the American Film Institute’s festival in Los Angeles: AFI Fest 2010 presented by Audi.

AFI Fest’s Associate Director of Programming Lane Kneedler had this to say: “We looked at over 3,000 films this year submitted to us in our shorts programming. We will be showing 31. We found Trevor’s film quite easily since we had been familiar with his work for a couple of years. We have shown two other short films by him in the past and were following his success at the Berlin and Toronto Film Festivals. I reached out to Trevor asking to see some of his new work and instantly knew we would show The High Level Bridge as soon as I saw it. Trevor’s filmmaking style elicits a warmth and quirky sensibility that paints a loving portrait of his Canadian homeland. Some of his work is more explicitly Nationalist or driven by his place of origin than others but regardless there is always a bright spark of Canadian charm in all of his work.”

In The High Level Bridge, Anderson documents the bridge’s history, acknowledges its role in tragic suicides and its place in collective psychology, finding humour in dark territory. The film showcases chilling shots of the North Saskatchewan River, and pays homage to the people and events surrounding an odd landmark.

The High Level Bridge is produced by Anderson’s Dirt City Films. Fish Griwkowsky is cinematographer. It is edited by Justin Lachance, sound design is by John Blerot of Wolf Willow Sound, and Scott Davidchuk provides a drum score.

The High Level Bridge screens November 9 at Mann’s Chinese Theatre in L.A.
